Last updated: 23 June 2026. CancelMate ("we", "us", "our", the "App") helps you track subscriptions, view your spending, and generate cancellation letters. This Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how we protect it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a unique account identifier and your email address (and name/photo if provided). We use this to create and secure your account.

Financial information via Plaid. With your explicit consent, you may connect bank or card accounts using Plaid Inc. ("Plaid"). Plaid securely collects your bank credentials (we never see or store them) and provides us with:

  • Account information (account name, type, masked account number, balances);
  • Transaction history (dates, amounts, merchant names, categories);
  • Recurring transactions used to detect your subscriptions.

We do not collect or store your bank login credentials at any time. Those are entered by you directly into Plaid.

App usage and device data. Basic, non-identifying technical data (app version, device type, crash and performance diagnostics) to operate and improve the App.

How We Use Plaid

We use Plaid to connect to your financial institution(s). Your use of Plaid is governed by Plaid's End User Privacy Policy: https://plaid.com/legal/#end-user-privacy-policy. By connecting an account you also agree to Plaid's terms.

How We Use Collected Information

  • To provide core features: subscription detection, spend tracking, renewal reminders, and cancellation-letter generation;
  • To authenticate you and secure your account;
  • To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the App;
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal or financial information, and we do not use your financial data for advertising.

Information Disclosure

We share information only as needed to operate the App, with these service providers: Plaid (bank connection and authorized financial data), Firebase / Google Cloud (authentication and app integrity), and Hostinger (secure hosting of our backend and database). We may also disclose information if required by law. We do not share your financial data with any party for marketing purposes.

How We Protect Your Information

  • In transit: all data is encrypted using HTTPS / TLS 1.2 or higher;
  • At rest: consumer data is stored on encrypted, access-controlled infrastructure; Plaid access tokens are additionally encrypted using AES-256-GCM;
  • Access control: production access is restricted, least-privilege, and protected by multi-factor authentication;
  • In-app protection: the App can require biometric authentication (Face ID / Touch ID / device passcode) before connecting a bank or viewing financial data.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your financial data only while your account is active and your bank connection is maintained. You can disconnect a bank at any time in the App (which deletes that connection and its stored accounts and transactions), or delete your account, which permanently erases all of your stored data and instructs Plaid to remove the connection and revoke access tokens. We review our retention practices at least annually.

Your Rights

Depending on your location (e.g., UK/EU GDPR, US state laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to withdraw consent. Use the in-app deletion controls or contact us at the email below.

Consent

We collect, process, and store your data only with your consent, given by accepting this Policy and through Plaid's consent flow before any bank account is connected. You can withdraw consent by disconnecting your bank(s) or deleting your account.

Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
